Meet D-truce, a.k.a Dusten Truce, Seize the Bae crooner, Trailer jam driver, Jared, and I could go on. His real name is Chukwuebuka Dusten Anyasie; he’s Nigerian, Igbo and a graduate of Electrical Engineering from the Yaba College of Technology, Lagos. That alone says he isn’t any average rapper on the up and up.
Truce is a Hip-Hop recording artist who started around the age of 14, I heard through the grapevine that he wrote his first song in 2009 and went on to record a song titled “bounce”. One year after that single led to his first feature verse on a song titled “the top” by “Naledge”.
Let me stir you through the young talented microphone checker’s rap odyssey real quick, because I have been a fan and because why the hell not.
Dusten released a mixtape that didn’t fare too well in the summer of 2011 called “Mixtape Killer” under Turnout Records (an American/Nigerian Record label), he remained relentless in his pursuit of a rap career. Moving on, Truce Broke away from the label in early 2012 and forged ahead by going on to participate in the popular rap battle competition, Nokia: Don’t Break the Beat, finishing third overall in a field of rappers from all over Nigeria, not a small feat, I repeat, not a small feat. Following this fruitful foray, he was opportune to appear on Don’t Break the Beat’s judge and local rap icon, Modenine’s “Occupy the Throne mixtape”, also Rapper – AQ & apos’s E.P “Make your best rapper look stupid” and Cyrus the Virus; “Infiltration” mixtape. Truce gained some exposure; performed at open mic events and café’s in Lagos, freestyled on radio and Television talk shows, gained a following on twitter and got the backing of his hood.
Fully packed with the juice of a rising star, In June 2013, he released “Truce Shall Set You Free, the mixtape” (#TSSYF) featuring the critically acclaimed “See” and “Hold On,” which opened up the door to national radio airplay, considerable online buzz and praises from industry heavyweights like; Cyrus Tha Virus, Osagz, Fazillion and the likes.
Permit me to comment just this once on a cliché D-TRUCE IS NOT “Like” MODENINE, HE IS LIKE D-TRUCE and no disrespect to the legend.
Dusten’s lyrical content has deep rooted meaning about life, Government, love, family, personal strife, and women that everyone can all relate to. Songs like Suffering and smiling where D-truce sampled Fela’s original suffering and smiling Track speaks on the current Nigerian economic situation. He also recently featured on a mixtape “Signs of Distress” by FullEffex. Don’t believe the hype, but believe this hype; you need Truce on your track. It gets better; the young rapper is even more talented Truce expanded his horizons; he joined the world of advertising as a copywriter, putting his creative juices to good use. He is cast as a character on award winning Nigerian Soap Opera, Tinsel, playing “Jared.” In November 2014, he joined the X3M Music family and released his debut single, “Better Days,” featuring label mate, Praiz to positive reception from the general public and wide airplay. He carried on to start off the #PopCultureSeries; a collection of songs based on social media and real life topics, released at intervals in between official releases from his label X3M Music. Songs in this series include Seize the Bae, Trailer jam and Suffering and smiling Truce is currently working on a new sound which he basically tags “Feel good music” which is a mash of Hip-Hop influenced Jazz and Afro-beats, with a truckload of projects in the works ready to drop, the rapper is really optimistic about what the future holds for him and we wish him good luck!
