Electric Pop singer, Lady Gaga has been named 2015 Woman of the Year by Billboard magazine, unseating former crown owner, Taylor Swift.
The renowned publication revealed on Tuesday, September 29, that the pop star will be honored with the achievement at its December 11 Women in Music event in New York City.
The executive vice president and head of programming at Lifetime, Liz Gateley, revealed Gaga will be honored due to her astounding accomplishments in the entertainment industry.
“Lady Gaga is an extraordinary artist, emblematic of the strength, courage and fortitude that Lifetime celebrates, and we are thrilled to offer our platform to recognize her in every way she deserves” she said.
Lady Gaga recently hit number one on the real time “Billboard + Twitter Trending 140 chart” with her video ‘Till It Happens to You’, a track the six-time Grammy-winning singer recorded for a college sexual assault documentary ‘The Hunting Ground’.
The Women in Music event is also set to honour the music industry’s 50 most powerful female executives of the year. The co-president and chief creative officer of Guggenheim Media’s entertainment group, Janice Min, explained:
“Billboard’s Woman of the Year has always represented the finest in music, and the anointing of a key influential figure who drove the conversation for that year. No one embodies that more than Lady Gaga in 2015”
Other female acts also to be celebrated include legendary soul singer, Aretha Franklin, and new generation performers; Jessie J, Charli XCX, Ariana Grande, Iggy Azalea.
