Jazz icon Natalie Cole, daughter of Nat 'King' Cole, dead at 65

Cole’s publicist, Maureen O’Connor, said the singer died on Thursday night, but there were no immediate details about how or where Cole died. The singer Natalie Cole, daughter of the jazz great Nat “King” Cole, has died. She was 65.

Cole’s publicist, Maureen O’Connor, said the singer died on Thursday night. There were no immediate details about how or where Cole died. Cole had battled drug problems and hepatitis. She had a kidney transplant in May 2009.

Cole’s 1991 album, Unforgettable … With Love, featured reworked versions of some of her father’s best-known songs. It sold 14m copies and won six Grammys. On the title song, Unforgettable, she sang along with her father’s taped version to create a memorable duet.

Cole won the first of nine Grammy Awards in 1975, 10 years after her father’s death. Her last Grammy was awarded in 2009, for the album Still Unforgettable
