John Legend, Tyrese, & Demi Lovato Honor Lionel Richie At Grammys

Lionel Richie, 2016’s MusiCares Person of the Year, was honored with a stirring, star-studded medley of his hits, both as a solo star and as a member of The Commodores, during Monday’s Grammy Awards.

John Legend started the tribute from his piano with a soulful version of “Easy.” Lovato, rocking a black-and-white pantsuit, then took the stage for a potent vocal performance of the icon’s “Hello.”

From his seat, Richie looked on with a smile and watery eyes. Soon, Demi passed the mic to Luke Bryan for “Penny Lover” and Meghan Trainor for “You Are.” The tempo picked up some more for Tyrese Gibson’s take on The Commodores’ lively “Brick House.”

But the spotlight was truly on Richie here, so the celebrated singer took the stage to close things out with “All Night Long.”

A similar tribute to Richie took place over the weekend. There, Rihanna, Pharrell, and Usher joined the celebration. That event raised a record-setting $7 million for MusiCares.
