Rihanna is set to reign over the 2018 Met Gala.
The pop icon has been named co-host of the Costume Institute’s 2018 Gala. She will share hosting duties with Amal Clooney and Donatella Versace at the event, which will celebrate the theme “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination.”
This year’s hosts were Katy Perry, Pharrell Williams, Gisele Bündchen, and Tom Brady. Chosen by Anna Wintour, the new trio makes a statement as an all-female panel with a history of turning heads at the biggest fashion event of the year.
RiRi is no stranger to the Met Gala, a celebration that raises funds for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. She performed at two of the annual shows and has attended seven altogether. Versace has 16 Met Galas under her belt, while Clooney has only been to one (2015’s “China: Through the Looking Glass”).
Bad Gal has been celebrated for her style throughout the years. In 2014, upon accepting the CFDA Fashion Icon, she explained her fascination with the culture. “Growing up fashion was a defense mechanism,” she said. “As a child I remember saying: she can beat me but she can’t beat my outfit.”
The 2018 Met Gala is set to take place at New York’s Metropolitan Music of Art on May 7.
