#TheBasementBig served maaaad, sizzling tunes that make me think Nigerians are not ready for the next generation of sounds because they are on wax!
I am in love with the new independence by Nigerian artists on SoundCloud powered by social media, family and friends. It helped boost a lot of artists and helped them reach a variety of audiences that are willing to listen and pay for their work, finally.
The basement gig (#ThebasementGig) happened two days ago at Cielo lounge and it was a lituation, literally. When you think of underground hip-hop artists, some of the big names that performed (at least by underground rap standards) was Bella Alubo, Triq Ota Benga, Semilore Olu, Kayode, and King Bernard, King Perry, and Hypa. The show was hosted by the beautiful Kemi smallz and on the wheels of steel was Dj SixSeven. The wave was sick! Mainland came through. I need everyone to kill the noise that there are no Nigerian hip-hop music good enough to export, the underground is where it is at.
