Last year was huge for Sia, largely thanks to her sixth album, 1000 Forms of Fear, which spawned smash hits “Chandelier” and “Elastic Heart” and earned her four Grammy nominations.
But apparently, 2014 was even busier for Sia than any of us realized. In a recent interview withNME, the Australian singer-songwriter revealed that her next solo album is not only finished, but has a title, too.
“I’m super productive. I have a full album ready to go and it’s much more pop,” she spilled. “I’m calling it This Is Acting because they are songs I was writing for other people, so I didn’t go in thinking ‘this is something I would say.’ It’s more like play-acting. It’s fun.”
Judging by her description, we’re assuming the album is going to be filled with glossier, more anthemic-sounding pop songs in the vein of Rihanna’s “Diamonds” and Beyoncé’s “Pretty Hurts,” both of which Sia wrote.
In the revealing interview, Sia also divulged that she only released 1000 Forms Of Fear as a way of escaping her publishing deal.
“Basically, I put this out to get out of my publishing deal. I was planning to be a pop song writer for other artists,” the 39-year-old artist explained. “But my publishing deal was as an artist so I had to put one more album out. I didn’t want to get famous so I kept all the songs I wanted and had a lot of fun making it.”
So basically, it’s a massive relief that 1000 Forms Of Fear was as wildly successful as it was because it encouraged Sia to keep making her own music — which sounds like it could be coming really soon!
Based on all this info, I think it’s safe to assume that one of the reasons why the fame-phobic star is always covering her face is because she’s clearly such a busy bee that she wants to hide the lack of sleep she must be getting. In any case, Sia, our ears thank you for your relentless work.
