Konvict Muzik and KonLive founder, Akon revealed he could have signed Drake early on before the rapper was signed to Cash Money Records.
The successful singer-turned-entrepreneur revealed in a recent interview with Montreality that he had the opportunity to listen to the unpolished Drake courtesy of his association with Kardinal Offishall.
“I honestly did pass on him because at the time, he didn’t sound like what he sounded like today“, the Senegalese revealed.
“The ‘Best I Ever Had,’ it wasn’t even close to what that sounded like. I think he was at a position where he was finding himself. And I kind of heard it in the music, but ultimately, as time goes, people develop and they get better and they become the best because of things like that“
Akon who was able to sign successful acts such as Lady Gaga and T-Pain to his label, said Drake used to be shy but has grown in confidence since his emergence.
“I think his confidence has grown a lot“ he says of the Canadian rapper.
