Beyonce, Coldplay and Ed Sheeran to headline free Global Citizen Festival in NYC

Some of the biggest names in the music industry are lined up to play at a charity concert in Central Park, New York, in a bid to help end poverty.

Beyonce, Coldplay and Ed Sheeran were announced on Wednesday as headliners of the Global Citizen Festival, which takes place on September 26.

The ‘Crazy in Love’ hitmaker – whose Chime for Change campaign has partnered with the festival to empower young women – confirmed: ‘I am honoured to be a part of the Global Citizen Festival.

‘It has always stood for improving the lives of people everywhere, but this year is especially rewarding as we all join focuses and utilize our talents for one goal: to end extreme poverty globally.’

Alongside the stellar line up of US music stars, seven-time Grammy Award winners Coldplay will take to the stage – as Chris Martin announced at the launch at Milk Studios in New York on Wednesday .

Fellow Brit Ed Sheeran, who has sold almost five million copies of his second album ‘x’ since it was released last year, is also geared up to perform.
