There’s a new girl in Chris Brown‘s life who’s changing him for the better: Her name is Royalty, his 19-month-old daughter. In March, it was revealed that the R&B-rap singer is the proud father of a baby girl with former model Nia, who he’s known for years. Since welcoming Royalty into his life, Chris has been put through the ultimate test of patience and found a better version of himself. On Friday, the “Loyal” singer spoke to On Air with Ryan Seacrest about being a dad and how Royalty has changed his disposition.
“It’s actually great, it’s very humbling, and it’s very calming,” admits Chris, who spends two weeks with his daughter every month. “Being able to be a father and seeing my daughter from those gradual stages — from crawling, to walking, to saying words, to learning different things every day — is kind of teaching me patience and it’s been great.” Not only did fatherhood change Chris’ behavior and overall outlook on life, it inspired his seventh studio album Royalty, an 18-track collection featuring the lead single “Zero” and his new songs “Liquor” and “Fine By Me.”
Chris is set to release the record on December 18, and for every album sold, he will donate $1 to Children’s Miracle Network, a nonprofit that raises funds for pediatric hospitals, medical research, and awareness of children’s health issues. “You have these platforms and these positions as an artist,” he explains the impetus behind his charitable act. “It only matters if you help people along the way.”
As for his controversial past, Chris says he has now moved forward and hopes people will learn from his mistakes. “I’m not insecure and ashamed of who I am and what I’ve been through in my life,” he admits. “I just chose now to let people learn from my situation and try to understand that I’m human and everybody is human as well.”
