DMX cancelled his concert dates earlier this week, the 46-year-old rapper checked himself into a rehab facility in Southern California on Thursday night (Apr. 27). According to TMZ, X went voluntarily, with some encouragement from his manager, Pat Gallo, and ex-wife, Tashera Simmons.
X called off three shows this week due to a “medical emergency.” He apparently felt like he was “moving to a dark place” and wanted to make sure he wasn’t headed back there.
There were signs of trouble last week when X joined his Ruff Ryders family, including Swizz Beatz and Eve, on stage at a reunion show at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center. Fans noticed his odd behavior and there were reports that he was drinking heavily.
Gallo issued an apology for the postponed shows. “It is important right now that he take some time off to focus on his health so that he can be a better father, friend and entertainer,” said X’s manager. “We are eternally grateful for the outpouring of concern and support that has poured in. We ask that you please keep X in your prayers as he embraces your support.”
This is not DMX’s first stint in rehab. He previously sought help while battling substance abuse issues.
