“Empire” just added another big name to their Season 2 roster…Kelly Rowland! “Empire” star-studded guest starring list keeps getting better and better.
For those fans hoping to see Kelly storm the halls of “Empire” records as a hot new artist, there is news in for a bit of a disappointment. A source close to set spilled the tea to E! Online news during the 2015 ESSENCE Festival going down right now in New Orleans. And it definitely seems to be true. The 34-year-old stunna has the perfect amount of sass and fierceness to make her the right fit for Lucious Lyon’s mother in a flashback.
According to the news reported by E Online, “During season 1, Empire often featured scenes from Terrence Howard’s character’s past, which shows and his feisty now-ex-wife Cookie Lyon, played by Taraji P. Henson, during harder times before they built their powerful music empire,” the article said.
The news of Rowland’s casting is exciting, but it’s not exactly a surprise to many Empire fans. It’s already been confirmed that Kelly had met with writers from the show last month, which sparked speculation she could make an appearance. The writers Tweeted a group photo with themselves and the star, and it appears plans have been set in motion. They captioned the picture: “Hey, @KELLYROWLAND! Thank you for spending some time with the #Empire writers!
According to the news reported by That Grape Juice, the audience could expect that the role suggests that she’ll be more than “just another celebrity cameo”. It is an excellent piece of casting, for sure. And will hopefully add more quality to the show while she’s having enough time to still focus on music.
The second season will premiere on September 23, with the special participation of Chris Rock, Lenny Kravitz and Alicia Keys, all set to make appearances. Marissa Tomei will also join the casts and play as a demanding venture capitalist.
