Mary J. Blige did not only release her critically-acclaimed album Strength of a Woman in April, but the R&B songstress has also been receiving rave reviews for her acting role in Mudbound, which has now translated into a couple of Golden Globe nominations.

The Queen of Hip-Hop Soul has been nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in Any Motion Picture, pitting her against Hong Chau (Downsizing), Allison Janney (I, Tonya), Laure Metcalf (Lady Bird), and Octavia Spencer (The Shape of Water).

Blige has been celebrated for her role of Florence Jackson in the film. “Dee Rees’s story of one black and one white family struggling in the WW II-era South is a fiercely intimate epic that couldn’t be more timely,” writes Rolling Stone. “Mary J. Blige should be on every Oscar list for best supporting actress.”

The multi-talented star also earned a nomination for Best Original Song – Motion Picture for Mudbound’s “Mighty River.” She is up against “Remember Me” by Miguel (Coco), “This Is Me” by Keala Settle (The Greatest Showman), “Home” by Nick Jonas (Ferdinand), and “The Star” by Mariah Carey (The Star).
