Is fashion designer Rachel Roy the “Becky” that Beyoncé sings about on her new album LEMONADE?
The project which premiered during an hour-long HBO special—alludes to Queen Bey’s husband Jay Z and his rumored infidelity. During the LP’s “SORRY,” ‘Yoncé references one person in particular in a cryptic line. “He only want me when I’m not there,” she sings. “He better call Becky with the good hair.”
Just hours after LEMONADE’s premiere, Rachel Roy, a fashion designer long-rumored to have had an affair with Jay Z, posted a photograph on Instagram with the following caption: “Good hair don’t care, but we will take good lighting, for selfies, or self truths, always. live in the light #nodramaqueens.”
Part of the Jay Z/Roy rumors have roots in Solange’s infamous elevator incident. At the time, outlets including Us Weekly reported that the argument was sparked because of Hov’s flirtation with the fashion designer at a Met Gala after-party.
Roy, who was also once married to Jay’s former business partner-turned-foe Dame Dash, was heavily criticized for her Instagram post by the BeyHive. They promptly flooded her comments with lemon and bee emojis, as well as insults.
Although Roy has since gone private on Instagram, fans have also dragged her Wikipedia by editing her page, and on Twitter with a series of memes.
Roy then responded to the criticism. “I respect love, marriages, families and strength,” she tweeted. “What shouldn’t be tolerated by anyone, no matter what, is bullying, of any kind.”
