The R&B songstress deleted her Twitter account, but not before posting a message about the state of the nation. Knowles’ parting tweet referenced Takiyah Thompson, a 22-year-old North Carolina Central University student who was recently arrested for her role in removing a statue of Robert E. Lee, a Civil War general of the Confederate Army.

“deleting my twitter soon, but before I dip, when we gonna pull up?” asked Solange. “what we got to do to get my new hero Takiyah Thompson free?”

Taking to Instagram, Solange shared a note through Stories. “been trying to study myself,” she wrote. “been trying to practice self preservation during this time and not give racist ugly ass fuck bois who reek of citronella my energy so that I can perform this album.”

Knowles’ posts arrive on the heels of a white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia that claimed the lives of three people. In her note, Solange also denounced white supremacists and nazis before reflecting on her son Julez, who is about to start the new school year.

“how mofos supposed to have a fresh start with education, seeing this shit?” she asked. “thinking about demanding he not be required to take ‘American History’ because its deep dark rooted ugliness continues to live right now, right before our eyes.”

Solange has not been alone in her criticism of racism and white supremacists.
