Although the beef between Drake and Meek Mill has seemingly subsided but with the recent announcement of the 58th Annual Grammy Awards, highlighted by countless nominations by the likes of Kendrick Lamar, The Weekend, Alabama Shakes and Florence and the Machine , Drake also scored five nominations as well.

What’s particularly interesting to note is that Drake’s nod for Best Rap Performance for “Back to Back” marks the first time The Recording Academy has recognized a “diss” record for a major award.

Featuring stiff competition in the form of J. Cole, Fetty Wap, Kendrick Lamar, Nicki Minaj and Kanye West, it remains to be seen if Drake’s potential victory will come at an even greater cost to Meek Mill’s career.

While songs like Tupac’s “Hit Em Up,” Nas’ “Ether,” and Jay Z’s “Takeover” may stick greater in the minds of rap fans, Drake has the potential to make history when the awards air February 15.
